What to Do When a Pattern Isn't Working Out
Sat, Feb 20, 21
Kelley was knitting up some baby booties this last week, and the pattern just wasn't working out. She didn't like the way the fabric was forming, and no matter what she tried it just wouldn't form how she wanted. So this week she thought she would share what to do when a knitting pattern just isn't working out!
Does it matter if it was a paid for pattern?
No, it does not! After All, your time is MONEY, should you throw good money after bad? Not in our opinion. Continuing to attempt the pattern also wastes yarn!
What if you like the results you are getting but can’t understand the pattern?
You have several options –
- First, Reread the entire pattern when you are not tired (ie early in the morning not late at night). You may have missed an important detail because you were tired and probably shouldn't have been knitting anyway.
- Second, contact the designer. They designed the pattern and can most likely walk you through the section you’re having trouble with.
- Third, ask your fellow knitters! We have many talented knitters on Ravelry, our VIP group, and Reddit who don’t mind helping each other through rough patches.
Stitch Markers Are Your Friends!
Always use stitch markers to differentiate the right side of your work as well as pattern repeats. God made knitting notions, you might as well use them! We have a wide selection of stitch markers in the shop.
