Kelley just finished knitting the Shift Cowl by Andrea Mowry, and she's fallen in love with mosaic knitting.

While it sounds complicated or fiddly—mosaic art is made up of little pieces of glass, after all—mosaic knitting is super easy. Seriously, you end up with a beautiful colorwork project, but you're only using one color in each row.

What is this magic, you ask? Well, it's simply slip-stitch knitting! When working the mosaic technique, you slip the stitches of one color while knitting the stitches of another. Because of this, you're only ever knitting with one color. Yes, it's pretty magical. 

Mosaic knitting is perfect for beginners—if you’ve knit a two-color stripe pattern, you can knit a mosaic project. You can create fabulous colorwork with this method, just look at the Shift Cowl:

For her cowl, Kelley used Schoppel-Wolle Zauberball Starke 6 in color #2092 (Schokaladenseite) and Berroco Ultra Alpaca Light in color #4289 (charcoal mix) and 4281 (redwood mix). Isn't it pretty?
